Game 4: Northeastern vs. James Madison
> Live on-location in Richmond, VA at the CAA Tournament
So here we are the nightcap of today’s action! While mentally I could go for another quadruple helping of college hoops, my body probably wouldn’t like me very much, so I will relent and head back to my hotel after this one.
This 6 vs. 11 match up has the makings for a good one as the only time Northeastern and James Madison met this year it was a three-point win for the Dukes; I’d expect more of the same in the postseason.
JMU is led by do everything guard Abdulai Jalloh (say that five times fast) and lengthy forwards Terrance Carter and Juwann James. All three average over 13 points per game and two more players nearly average 10. The bench production has been limited at best, so the starters will likely log a lot of minutes tonight.
The Huskies are an interesting team. They finished 6th in the CAA but took Maryland to overtime and gave another group of Huskies (UConn) a scare as well. So is it fare to say this is a team that runs hot and cold? Probably. Matt Janning (who just hit a nice contested jumper right in front of me) is the top dog for NU (no pun intended). He has solid all around averages of 16 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists while connecting on 46% of his shot attempts.
Both crowds have good turnouts (surprising for Northeastern being from Boston) and both student sections are loud. Just four minutes into this one and JMU’s band is already making a serious push for most spirited group at the tournament on day one. I’ll be back later in the half. With 15:58 to go until the break its 5-4 in favor of the Dukes.
PS: Legendary Maryland coach Lefty Driesell was just announced during the timeout, of course he was a former CAA coach as well having spent time at Georgia State where he was the 1990 and 1992 CAA coach of the year.
