Few upsets dot afternoon games...
Nine of the twelve games completed thus far have seen the higher-seeded team win, all games involving #2 seeds vs #3s. Only Louisville (over Miami), Charlotte (over NC State), and Oklahoma State (over Creighton) have pulled off the mini-upsets, and of those, only the Cardinals' win over the 'Canes is even a little bit surprising.
Earlier in the day, Clemson had to rally with 2 in the bottom of the 9th to take down St. John's, while Arizona (over Oral Roberts), TCU (over Baylor), Louisiana-Lafayette (over Ohio State), and East Carolina (over Western Carolina) all survived one-run contests, with the Ragin' Cajuns and Pirates scoring runs in their final at-bat to claim the wins.
At this point, it appears that favorites Coastal Carolina and Southern Miss will also advance.
Looking towards the night activity, most of the matchups are of the 1/4 variety, so it will certainly be interesting to see if all of the top seeds survive day one.
