NC State 8, #8 Georgia 17 -- FINAL

> Live on-location in Athens, GA at the Athens Super Regional Baseball Tournament

You could not have scripted the results any better than Georgia put up today in claiming a 17-8 Game 3 victory over the NC State Wolfpack. With the win, the Bulldogs will now travel to the College World Series.

Georgia jumped right on NC State starter Eric Surkamp. Surkamp did not retire an out as the Dogs got three singles, 2 walks and a hit batter before the hook was called. In the inning, Georgia would score 9 runs on 8 hits while sending 14 batters to the plate.

Gordon Beckham came up for what would be his last at bat in Foley Field in the 7th. The fans stood to applaud his great play and knew that this would be Gordon's last at bat. With a runner on first, Beckham worked the count to 2-2 and then promptly deposited the fifth pitch over the wall in left center field. Talk about storybook material that one cannot make up!!

Beckham also homered in the 6th and finished with a 3-4 day and 4 RBIs. Ryan Peisel also had three hits, one of which was a homer in the 7th. Rich Poythress was 3 for 3 and 4 RBIs, while Bryce Massanari had a 2 for 5 day with a homer and 4 RBIs.

For NC State, Jeremy Synan was 3 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs. Dallas Poulk was 2 for 4 with a homer and three runs scored.

Georgia moves on to Omaha and will next play on Saturday against the winner of tonight's Arizona/Miami, FL matchup.

I know it has been a few hours now...but I HAD TO COOL OFF!!! It was hot at Foley Field today, but the Georgia Bulldogs caught fire in the third after NC State put two on the board in the top half of the inning. The big hits were delivered by Matt Olson and Gordon Beckham in the 3rd. Olson singled home a run with two outs then Beckham followed with a two-run double to put Georgia in the lead for good.

Joey Lewis had a pinch hit two-run HR later in the game. Trevor Holder pitched 8 2/3 innings limiting the Wolfpack to 4 runs on seven hits. Game 2 between these two teams will be tomorrow at 12 noon eastern time. Sunblock and water will be necessary again!!

(1) Georgia 18, (2) Georgia Tech 6 -- FINAL

> Live on-location in Athens, GA at the Athens Regional Baseball Tournament

Georgia put up crooked numbers in 6 of the 9 innings and cruised to an 18-6 victory over Georgia Tech to advance to the Super Regionals next weekend against NC State. Alex McRee picked up the win with 4 innings pitched. Will Harvil pitched 4 scoreless innings for the Bulldogs, after Dean Weaver took a line drive off the arm after facing just the one batter, and Joshua Fields closed it out in the ninth. Matt Olson finished the game 5 for 6 to put a huge stamp on a 18 for 26 (.692) weekend.

Rich Poythress had a 2 run HR in the 5th and Bryce Massanari was 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs.

The Yellow Jackets had 6 errors on the day. They only had one inning where Georgia did not get a hit, but the Bulldogs had a base runner in every inning.

(2) Ga Tech 0, (1) Georgia 8 -- FINAL

> Live on-location in Athens, GA at the Athens Regional Baseball Tournament

It was better than your normal "NICK AT NITE" show here this evening. UGA pitcher Nick Montgomery tossed a complete game shutout to send the Athens Regional into a Game 7 tomorrow evening. All he did was allow 4 hits and retired 19 of the last 20 batters that he faced, including 17 in a row at one point. Yellow Jacket left fielder Charlie Blackmon got a two-out hit in the third, which was the last hit until he got another hit in the 9th - 17 outs later.

Rich Poythress, Matt Cerione and Matt Olson had homeruns for the Dogs as they squared the series with their rivals for the season at two games a piece, with the rubber game coming tomorrow. Of course, this time it is win or go home...
