Vandy Survives Austin Peay in 11

When they say that you've got to be lucky to win sometimes, that holds true in the case of the Vanderbilt Commodores in this particular contest. Tim Corbin's squad barely won a game in which David Price struck out 17 in 9 innings. The problem was that he was facing Austin Peay starter Shawn Kelly, who pitched an absolute gem. He threw 10 innings, allowing only 1 run on a wild pitch and walking no one. In the bottom of the 11th, Vandy was doubled up on a ball hit to first base. Ryan Flaherty singled to left and then moments later was at 3rd base. To get to 2nd, he avoided a tag after the 2nd baseman dropped the ball. He advanced on 3rd on a wild pitch. And he scored on a ball that was hit as hard as a bunt. The Austin Peay closer tripped when he tried to field the ball, allowing the game winning run to score. #1 Vandy wins 2-1.
