Game 8: George Mason vs. Northeastern
> Live on-location in Richmond, VA at the CAA Tournament
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s time for the greatest show in the CAA. No I’m not talking about George Mason, I’m talking about their pep band and their fans. I don’t think I have seen anything like this before from any college fan base. These fans are absolutely nuts and they have come out in tremendous numbers. The pep band is big, loud, and has a voice altering synthesizer incorporated in their routine! Are you kidding me? This is going to be fun to watch. Now to the game.
Northeastern had an impressive win over James Madison yesterday thanks to their tremendous shooting (52% from the field). In all, five Huskies were in double figures and the game was never really in much doubt. Tonight is a whole different bowl of cherries though, and Northeastern better hope their hot shooting continues.
Everyone knows who George Mason is. They are the team that put the CAA on the map and really thrust mid-major basketball into the national spotlight. Well tonight they come in as the #3 seed in the conference but just as dangerous and the 1 or 2 seed. This a senior laden team led by beast forward Will Thomas (16 ppg, 10.4 rpg) and swingman Folarin Campbell (15.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.4 apg). This is a very smart, athletic and well coached team. Jim Larranaga will have his squad ready to go for this one.
Also worth mentioning, a large group of VCU fans are still in attendance and are of course throwing their support behind Northeastern. I don’t think a few Rams will be enough to combat this massive Mason support group that already qualifies as the loudest fan base I have heard so far this weekend and the game hasn’t even started! Alright tip-off is just about here so lets get to the game.
