#8 San Diego Eliminated, Texas Falls

The Toreros were one of the better stories of the season. Their season came to an abrupt end tonight after losing to Minnesota 6-5. In the top of the 9th, down 5-0, San Diego rallied and scored 5 runs, keyed by a 3-run homerun from Logan Gelbrich. A bases loaded single in the bottom of the 10th by Derek McCallum ended the game, ending the #8 national seed's season and extending Minnesota's by one game. They will play the loser of the Cal State Fullerton/Fresno State game tomorrow.

In Round Rock, Texas, earlier today, the #4 national seed Texas Longhorns went down to UC Irvine by a score of 3-1. But unlike San Diego, they will have one more day to play to advance. The Longhorns will play Wake Forest and if they win that game, they will have to beat UC Irvine twice. It will be a tough task for Texas, but being the #4 national seed, they can do it. For UC Irvine, starter Scott Gorgen was simply brilliant. In a complete game effort, he surrendered only 1 Longhorn run on 5 hits. UC Irvine will play the winner of the Texas/Wake Forest game and will need to win only 1 of 2 games to advance to the Super Regionals.
