Game 8: George Mason vs. Northeastern - Second Half Update
> Live on-location in Richmond, VA at the CAA Tournament
Mason looked like they were set to finish this one off early in the second half, but Northwestern just won’t go away. The foul calls have picked up a lot so the pace has slowed tremendously; this has favored the Huskies who clearly aren’t as athletic as the Patriots. What that leaves us with though is much more of a dog fight than I anticipated, and I think many of the GMU fans anticipated as well.
Northeastern has really stepped up their defensive pressure, giving Mason’s perimeter players a good amount of trouble, and forcing them to use a lot of shot clock. Will Thomas has still be the offensive force I expected, pouring in 16 points so far.
The Huskies are getting a lot of calls in their favor right now to keep them in the game. It isn’t to say the refs are doing a bad job, but these are tough calls, and they certainly making any friends in green or yellow tonight. As it stands though Mason is up 50-41 with 7:56 to play.
I know I keep going back to them but the Mason pep band is phenomenal! As I write this they are doing a rendition of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” and earlier in the half they busted out Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer” and even had a guitar solo! This is certainly above and beyond anything I have seen in my experiences with pep bands. Kudos to those guys.
Alright, less than 8 to go, it’s a good one, I’ll be back after the post game press conference!
